Man this is an uplifting song. It’s hard to categorize, a bit like Steely Dan, in fact that is a
good comparison, Steely Dan meets Todd Rundgren, with a female voice in the shape of
Patsy Gamble, who is also a consummate saxophonist, and has worked for a whole load of people, including Steve Winwood, Mick Jagger, Paul Weller and Ruby Turner.
Her vocal tone reminds me of Julia Fordham, delicate but engaging. The whole band has pedigree, Muddy Manninen on guitar has worked with Wishbone Ash, Black Pearl, and Gringos Locos. Martin Engelieu on bass has played with Ian Paice, Jan Akkerman, and The Tower Of Power Horns. Drummer Manni Von Bohr has percussed with Uli John Roth, Steve Morse and was founder of the Düsseldorf Musicians Academy.
To complete the creative team we have renowned lyricist Pete Feenstra, who provides his
usual level of eloquence and integrity to this joyous song. The song starts off with a Todd Rundgren style riff, which Muddy had to check to make sure it wasn’t a Rundgren run embedded in his sub-conscious. It just builds and builds until it explodes into a beautiful sunny day in the park. You can't help but feel good by about two thirds of the way in, this song wont let you be morose, it says wave your hands around, sing, feel good.
This is their debut single, and what a place to start. I look forward to more coming from
Mannifesto, and as this is from their self titled debut album we could be in luck. Maybe some live gigs too please. Get Pete on the case Muddy.
